Coulomb Narrows New U.S. Battery Pack Plant Site to 3 States

The factory will create more than 300 jobs.

Coulomb Solutions today announced a new U.S. manufacturing facility to assemble commercial vehicle battery packs.

The new factory will make battery packs specifically designed for U.S. commercial vehicles.

The company will source lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery cells from CATL, a Chinese battery manufacturer.

According to the company, the new cells offer greater durability and are much safer than nickel-cobalt-based chemistries.

The factory will create more than 300 jobs including production, assembly, quality, engineering, supply chain and support and management functions.

After scouting multiple locations, Coulomb narrowed its potential sites for its state-of-the-art facility to Arizona, Nevada and Texas.

The company hopes to finalize the site selection process by early summer.

According to David Mazaika, CEO of Coulomb, the new plant will cut lead times in half.

The factory will make several off-the-shelf battery packs for systems ranging from 30 kWh to more than 3.5 MWh.

The validated packs can help OEMs bypass battery system development, reducing cost and improving time to market.

The plant will produce up to 4.2 GWh per year initially, but can expand capacity as demand increases.
